Soot

I thought I could ignore

What I know

Like a lump of coal

But even when it

Sits there, unburned

I touch the thought

And the soot

Goes up my nose

Into my fingernails

All over my socks

Into my shoes

Into my pockets and

Before I know it

I’ve got you all over

My face and now

Everyone knows
