Bias

People who don’t have the struggle are always like

“You see what you want to see in the world—

People aren’t that bad, maybe you’re just miserable”

Various shades of that sentiment.

But bias is literally

A somewhat invisible social phenomenon

If hatred and bigotry could be cast as

Colors, auras, my body would be

Bloodied.

Bias exists only in communities

It’s what happens when the majority consciously or unconsciously believes something

And they act accordingly.

You don’t have to identify as a transphobe

To participate in transphobia.

You don’t have to identify as a racist

To participate in racism.

To put it simply—

You don’t have to identify as a musician

To sing out loud at concerts.

But if someone you hate

Sings your favorite song

You’ll tell them to shut up

No matter how good they are.
