r/TransNumbersToConsider
Apparently
1.4 million people in the USA identified as transgender in 2016
1.8% of Gen Z is trans
Take that, and consider how many people there are on reddit
In the various trans community threads
Currently at 11:53am 12/8/2021
Rough Reddit user estimate = 430,000,000
I get it I get it– not everyone uses reddit. I am very, very aware of this.

Here’s the deal I don’t really use reddit very often.
It shows up in search results and I see what people say that makes other people mad and I wonder to myself–
Does my life need that?
But since I’ve been recovering from surgery I’ve had time on my hands up to my ass with nothing to do but watch the love/hate. There is nothing in between, just Nice, normal, and The other guy’s bitching. Plenty of overlap within groups I mean–
I am following all of them– except for r/nonbinary, which honestly pissed me off so bad I can’t look at it. I thought I got into this stuff, because I was looking for community but the truth is– I’m more like Shine Louise Houston– I like looking at things almost as much as I like doing them.
Will I stay active on reddit?
Probably, but only as a peruser–
See, the way the app is built–
You are much more likely
To do well as a commenter, than you are
As a poster– the peanut gallery
Has all the power.
But seriously folks the shit is useless– each subreddit is an echo chamber of the same belief, the same bullshit– anyone that disagrees just goes to a “different subreddit” until they either compromise, or go through the same process over again.
The idea that you’re somehow in less of an echo than other places on the internet is an attitude I find common amongst redditors– they seem to think that the observations of anon strangers mean more there than people with faces.
It’s literally ridiculous, and as an app lover I’m all over it.
